Event Description

AFROFUNK EXPERIENCE

The Afrofunk Experience – An ambrosial mix of musical interpretations influenced by the African diaspora, created in a collective and organic manner.

The Afrofunk Experience – HOMEGROWN AFROBEAT, AFROROCK, REGGAE, AND ORIGINAL BAY AREA FUNK.

The Afrofunk Experience – who with Sila Mutungi comprised the award-winning group Sila and the Afrofunk Experience from it's inception until 2010, providing songs and grooves for the entity that was dubbed "The Bay Area's Dance Kings", and who, with SAFE,  were winners of the NAACP Image Award's Outstanding World Music Album for "Black President" and winners of The SF Weekly Music Award's Best International Act.

In 2009 the Afrofunk Experience parted ways with Sila.

The Afrofunk Experience – Putting the FUNK back in it!

The Afrofunk Experience – AFE for short.

The Musicians:

Guitarist/Singer David James (Spearhead, The Coup, Beth Custer) brings his sinewy style to counter the funk-metal stylings of lead guitarist Ken House (H.P. Riot). The precise funk-rock drumming of Paul Olipant (Afrolicious, Will Magid Trio) with Wendell Rand's (Afrolicious, Tracorum, Youssoupha Sidibe) muscular dance grooves keep the band tight, while saxophonist David Boyce (Broun Fellinis, The Supplicants) and trombonist Alan Williams (Manicato, Katdelic) wail, their horns producing a sound that encompasses outward-bound jazz, classic reggae, afrobeat and R&B.  Percussionist B. Lee thickens and adds flavor to the mix, and on top of all this, recent addition Sandy House adds her sultry voice and powerful stage presence.

Note: There once was a man named Mike Pitre ... he was the coolest cat, with the craziest degree of swing, in his trumpet playing, in his singing and in his living.  Mike passed away just weeks after he recorded his parts for the AFE album.   He would cuss the band out if they were to quit.  So they roll on.  And they miss him.

Afrofunk Experience – Never Be The Same, the album, available January 2013.

Afrofunk Experience is excited to invite baritone saxophonist  Sally Green and the incomparable Samba Guisse on Percussion
