Event Description

The Afrofunk Experience: The recent winners of The NAACP Image Award's Outstanding World Music Album "Black President" and winners of The SF Weekly Music Award's Best International Act, were the band behind Sila and the Afrofunk Experience for 7 years, providing songs and killer grooves for Victor Sila Mutungi, and being dubbed "The Bay Area's Dance Kings" in the process. Delivering home grown AFROFUNK, AFROBEAT, REGGAE, AND ORIGINAL BAY AREA FUNK, the ensemble's well-balanced instrumentation of dual guitars, bass, drums, percussion, trumpet, and saxophone ensures a wide dynamic range.

Band co-founder, and bassist Wendell Rand (Pleasuremaker, Tracorum, Youssoupha Siddibe), leads the cast off with his muscular, low end dance grooves. Tasteful, precise and very funky drummer, Paul Oliphant,(The Frail, Funky Miracle) is a serious study in afrobeat/afrofunk drum work.

Candelaria: Formed in 2009, Candelaria has taken their version of Cumbia-dub and moved dance floors all over the West Coast. Combining the irresistible grooves of Colombian Cumbia with the psychedelic dub sthat is both new and fresh yet familiar at the same time. After performing this past summer at major festivals such as the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and Lightning in a Bottle and touring from Portland Oregon to Ensenada Mexico, Candelaria is currently in the studio with Grammy award winning producer Greg Landau finishing up their second record. Combining the irresistible grooves of Colombian Cumbia with the psychedelic dub style techniques of the Jamaican studio masters, Candelaria has created a unique sound that is both new and fresh yet familiar at the same
time. Candelaria will both move your feet and blow your mind.

Cole Lumpkin Moves With the Music, Letting Life Shape Every Note

Cole Lumpkin doesn’t create from a distance. He creates from inside the moment. As a New York City native, his artistry reflects motion, curiosity, and constant self-interrogation. Music for Lumpkin isn’t something you step into once everything is figured out. It’s something you carry with you, refine on the move, and allow to grow alongside real life. A self-taught…See More

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
