A high-ranking White House official told the publication that the president, who has rubbed shoulders with Puffy numerous times over the years, is “vacillating” on a commutation.
“We’re told some of the W.H. staff are urging Trump not to commute the sentence,” TMZ reports. “But, our source states the obvious — “Trump will do what he wants,” and we’re told Trump could set Diddy free as early as this week.”
Diddy was sentenced earlier this month to 50 months behind bars after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution this past summer.
Days later, Diddy’s legal team reached out to the president in hopes of securing a commutation or pardon. Trump himself confirmed this on October 6, telling reporters inside the Oval Office: “A lot of people have asked me for pardons. I call him Puff Daddy, [he] has asked me for a pardon.”
