Watch the Emotional Trailer For the New DMX Documentary ‘Don’t Try To Understand’

On November 25th, HBO will premiere Don’t Try To Understand. The doc, which was directed by Christopher Frierson and executive produced by Bill Simmons from The Ringer, will cover the year DMX came home from prison.

Throughout the documentary, which takes place in 2019, we’ll see DMX plot his career comeback, reconnect with fans and family, and more. This documentary is the third film to be released in HBO’s Music Box documentary series. The first was the critically acclaimed Woodstock 99: Peace, Love And Rage documentary (which has been in the news lately because of the tragedy at Astroworld.) After that came Jagged, a documentary that covers Alanis Morissette’s iconic ’90s run. The next couple of documentaries will be about jazz legend Kenny G, Saturday Night Fever producer Robert Stigwood, and the deceased rapper Juice WRLD.

Don’t Try to Understand be an interesting artifact. The rapper died in April after suffering a heart attack. He was only 50 years old. At the time, the rapper was putting the finishing touches on his final album, Exodus, which would eventually be released in May and which was produced entirely by Swizz Beatz. Exodus would debut at number eight on the US Billboard 200 with 32,000 album-equivalent units. Exodus was DMX’s eighth top 10 album.
