In the early ’80s, two unlikely figures...Double Dee & Steinski, entered a $100 remix contest and accidentally changed hip-hop forever. Their cut-and-paste “Lessons” mixes, made from piles of records, movie quotes, and TV jingles, spread underground like wildfire, influencing everyone from Coldcut to DJ Shadow.
