Common had three albums behind him when 'Like Water for Chocolate' dropped in the spring of 2000, and he was maturing as an artist with every new move. Riding a Bobby Caldwell sample inventively tweaked by producer J Dilla, the Chicago MC addressed romance and the power of partnership in "The Light."
