Angeles Solis of Make the Road New York was one of the lead organizers coordinating the recent wave of Amazon workers' strikes. The protests were scheduled around Amazon's Prime Day, which Solis called a "made-up holiday" that was expected to bring in billions of dollars in sales for the company. But while corporate executives reap massive profits, Amazon's workers––many of whom are immigrants––are subjected to low wages, short-term contracts and oppressive working conditions, made to feel like "machines and not humans working in a warehouse." Solis goes on to criticize Amazon for marketing its facial recognition software to ICE and CBP, which would place further strain on immigrant communities and communities of color.
