American Basketball Association (ABA) Announces
New Media & Entertainment Division
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced the launch of ABA Media & Entertainment, a new division designed to emcompass all media, including TV, radio and social media as well as league associated music tours. The announcement was made by ABA co-founder Joe Newman, who said the new division will be led by hip hop mogul Antjuan "Tjuan
Benafactor" Washington, an established musician, award-winning songwriter and owner of the Steel City Yellow Jackets, a Pittsburgh-based ABA team. Tjuan has more than 10 years of entertainment and marketing experience.
Newman stated that Washington's role is effective immediately and that he was the ideal candidate to lead the new division. "Tjuan's credentials speak for themselves," said Newman. "He's a total professional with a great mix of strategic and analytical skills. It doesn't hurt that Tjuan is connected with the majority of the urban music scene which is more than I could ever ask as the ABA has always prided itself on being an urban league. Tjuan also has extensive experience in a wide range of product and service categories," added Newman. "And we are delighted to welcome him to lead the ABA's media and entertainment into the future."
Washington will serve as CEO/President of the new division and will lead a diverse team of basket ball, business, music and media professionals to leverage capabilities and resources in these areas. The Executive Staff will include:
Dylan Z. Gioia, Director of Media Relations & Operations (Dylan also owns the Brooklyn Skyrockets)
Darnell Van Rensalier, Director of Music & Entertainment (lead singer of legenday R&B Group Shai)
Tionna Coleman, Director of Human Resources
Roger "Dub P" Beckwith, Director of A & R's
Ricardo Stuvaints, League/Artist Liason
The concerts will be part of the ABA's Proud to Serve America initiative (www.proudtoservecoffee.com), which supports the military, police & firefighters. Proceeds will be donated to assist all PTSA programs.
About the American Basketball Association
The American Basketball Association (ABA) is a men's professional basketball league that was founded in 1999. It was the re-launch of the original ABA that merged with the NBA in 1976 and was co-founded by Joe Newman and Richard P. Tinkham. Tinkham was co-founder of the original ABA and the original Indiana Pacers which was one of the teams that merged into the NBA. Joe Newman was the CEO of Joe Newman Advertising, Inc as well as CEO of Alliance Broadcasting Group, Inc. In 1999, the duo joined forces, licensed the ABA name from the NBA and re-launched the ABA. The league has grown to become the largest professional sports league in the US with over 60 teams as well as the most diversified professional sports league ever with over 75% of its owners being African-American, Hispanic, Asians and women. The league also has two teams in Western Canada.
