Announced today by independent label New Dawn Records, they have signed Brooklyn rapper Justo the MC and Edinburgh producer Brelstaff for the release of their new album "Urban Testimony", due out on November 3rd.
Justo first emerged in 2010 working with his cousin DJ Vic Black of Gangstarr Foundation. The video of their joint "It's Our Year" featured DJ Premier, who would later go on to assist with their 2017 "Black Ops" project produced by Showbiz of DITC.
Since then he has collaborated with multiple producers from Canada, the States and Europe, including for thje first time with Edinburgh's Brelstaff in 2021 on a joint "Swagu".
Under his born name Daryl Donald, Brelstaff's earliest instrumental productions generated over a million plays on Spotify, and the instrumental version of "Urban Testimony" released in April of this year, again through New Dawn Records, drew support from the Focus Beats show on both BBC Radio 1 and Radio 6.
The theme of the new album centres around Justo's short and turbulent time studying at Clark Atlanta University which resulted in him being in conflict with a variety of emotions, questioning his faith, intentions, mental health and future ultimately reaching what he describes as the "crossroads in my life that year". It's a fascinating insight into his journey and the student life he witnessed, and is the true art of storytelling.
A video trailer has been published today on Youtube for the album. More information at www.newdawnrecs.com
