Will Smith & Jimmy Fallon Cover Classic Theme Songs In A Must-See TV Moment (Video)

BY PAUL MEARA / MARCH 23, 2018

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince are responsible for one of the most popular, and regularly-quoted television series themes of all time. Throughout recent years, when Will Smith gets together with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, the two entertainers (often involving The Roots) come together to have some fun—and teach a little history at the same time. In the latest “must-see TV” moment, Will and Jimmy sang and danced (and laughed) while The Roots played along to some of TV’s singalong theme classics of the last 50 years.

It all went down Thursday night (March 22) on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. The two entertainers kicked it all off with the Golden Girls’ ever-popular “Thank You For Being A Friend” song. They then covered the intros to The Jeffersons, Diff’rent Strokes, Good Times, and The Andy Griffith Show (with the camera moving to black-and-white). After one of the original “whistle songs,” they move into the song from I Dream Of Jeannie. Hip-Hop Heads may know that this catchy theme is tied to a major moment in Will’s career. It was the basis (and part of the crossover appeal) to the beat of “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble.” That song was Will and Jeff’s first to hit the charts.

After that cue, Will, Jimmy, and The Roots return to legendary ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s programming. Period piece theme songs from the Full House and The Greatest American Superhero are covered. Will then gets the crowd screaming when he salutes his Bad Boys co-star as he bellows the theme to Martin. After knocking on Three’s Company song, Will and Jimmy hit the studio audience to appropriately wrap with the theme to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
