Last night, JAY-Z christened the stage of NYC’s shortly shuttered Webster Hall.
Following two years of renovations, the reopening ceremony featured a who’s who of era-defining NYC heavyweights, including former rival, Nas, who joined the rapper for a medley of recalibrated collaborations (“The World is Yours,” “Dead Presidents II,” and “Success.”) A few songs later, Cam’ron and Jim Jones hit the stage to close out the evening with the show’s marquee MC, performing “Welcome to NYC” and “I Really Mean It.”
The performance marked Hov’s first of the season, currently slated for headlining sets at Woodstock’s 50th-anniversary festivities and his own Made In America Festival in Philly. Last year, he released a collaborative album with Beyonce as The Carters (Everything Is Love) and appeared onstage for a brief moment in her Netflix concert film, Homecoming.
