BY BANDINI / FEBRUARY 14, 2018
The Roots Picnic has become one of the culture’s longest-running artist-run Hip-Hop festivals. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania event has expanded to include New York City satellite festivals, and seen its share of historic moments. The 2018 affair has been announced and will see the event playing out a little differently.
On June 2, at the Penn’s Landing Festival Pier in Philly, The Roots crew will hold a jam session. Similar to their Grammy week events throughout the years (including a four-day series of events last month), Questlove, Black Thought, and the rest of the legendary band will join a plethora of guest performers. While The Roots have performed with past headliners (including Public Enemy, Usher, The Neptunes, and more), this appears to be a more open and unpredictable stage to close the Saturday event. Moreover, The Roots have invited longtime affiliate (and past picnic pop-up guest), Dave Chappelle, to host.
