Swizz Beatz is back. The Grammy-winning super-producer released his second studio album, Poison on Nov. 2— his first album release since his 2007 debut, One Man Band.
The project boasts a star-studded lineup of appearances, with features fromKendrick Lamar, Nas, Lil Wayne, Pusha T, Jadakiss, Styles P, Young Thug, Giggs, 2 Chainz, Jim Jones, French Montana, and Aine Zion. In September, Swizz released the music video for “Pistol On My Side (P.O.M.S.)” featuring Lil Wayne and Alicia Keys on piano.
J. Cole is credited as an executive producer on the project. In an interview with The Fader, Swizz explains how the collaboration was somewhat accidental.
“We were playing each other music, and then we started talking about things other than our projects, books, different things,” he said. “I was playing him songs from the album—before I had all these different sonic elements to the album, before separating them into four boxes. What I played you guys, where it stopped, he was like, ‘That’s the record. The other records you’re playing me, they’re huge, but I don’t think you need it.’”
