ChanHays is a producer from Halifax, Nova Scotia and someone who likes to feature spitters on his high tech, boom-bap instrumentals. At the end of last year, he dropped his debut project, Here, which touted some legendary MCs. Everyone from Ras Kass and Pharoahe Monch to Elzhi, Masta Ace, and The Cool Kids made appearances. Now, Chan isn’t wasting any time in gearing up for what’s next.
Preparing his forthcoming The Creepy EP (April 13), ChanHays dropped the first single off the project with “Brooklyn,” and it’s got a few of the New York borough’s sharpest lyricists stomping rhymes with along with their construction Timberlands. The song features Biggie’s iconic “Where’s Brooklyn at?” adlib, but it’s Skyzoo and Joell’s bars that really bring it back to BK’s essence.
“Weave through like a hollow hopping out of the stick / Or an out-of-towner weaving outside of the strip,” Skyzoo raps on the track. “New neighbors get to geeking they love for it / Come for the culture but call 3-1-1 on it / It’s still Brooklyn.”
