There is nothing that can make up for the loss of Sean Price. The Brooklyn MC who was a vital part of Heltah Skeltah and Boot Camp Clik, as well as a formidable solo artist, was one of a kind, both in his gritty Rap style and his unorthodox sense of humor. While the Hip-Hop community is still reeling from his untimely passing two years ago tomorrow (August 8), Sean P’s music lives on and, by the sounds of some of the releases from his forthcoming posthumous album Imperius Rex, Price was still very much at the peak of his powers.
Following the releases of the album’s title track and Sean’s collaboration with Styles P and the late Prodigy, the next song to surface is one of the LP’s most anticipated. Price join forces with DOOM on “Negus,” and it is as rugged as it gets. P and DOOM are given a sinister and menacing soundtrack that suits both of their no-nonsense styles perfectly.
