Run-D.M.C. are headlining a concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop in the borough where the genre was founded, the Bronx, New York. Hip Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium takes place on Friday, August 11, and will feature performances from Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Eve, Lil’ Kim, Remy Ma, Trina, Fat Joe, EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Slick Rick, Lupe Fiasco, and more.
Hip Hop 50 will also include a “Pillars of Hip-Hop” set featuring hip-hop’s founder, DJ Kool Herc, and his sister, Cindy Campbell, along with Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel, Roxanne Shanté, Scorpio, and the Sugar Hill Gang. There will also be a “Legendary DJ” segment with Clark Kent, Marley Marl, Mannie Fresh, and Battlecat.
Back in February, the Grammy Awards hosted a 50th anniversary of hip-hop celebration with dozens of artists including Missy Elliott, Big Boi, Run-D.M.C., Queen Latifah, Method Man, Public Enemy, Busta Rhymes, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and more.
