Phonte Delivers Another Knockout Verse & Makes It Sound Effortless (Audio)

BY PAUL MEARA • JULY 24, 2018

New Jersey veteran mix-master DJ K.O. is making a pretty significant return to the Hip-Hop scene and decided to call on an MC from a few areas beyond his Garden State to help him out. For those currently celebrating Phonte’s standout No News Is Good News album (included in Ambrosia For Heads‘ midyear best-of list), there’s a welcomed supplement of 2018 bars.

Dropping the new single “Heard It All,” K.O. enlists Phonte as well as Denaun, Rawkus Records alum Silent Knight, and Jered Sanders for the track. It’s produced by K.O., with Analogic with Lee Hogans on the trumpet and keyboard.

Phontigallo’s verse on the song is reminiscent of his latest album, where he spends a majority of it reflecting on his life and musical career. “I done heard it, I seen it, I painted pictures with it / Certain situations where everyone but me benefited,” he raps on the cut. “I put it in a sentence, then spit it for crowds with thousands of people in attendance / You can hear the intermittent screams and shouts from all the b*tches / Which is a set up for the come down / I give you the rundown, so you don’t bug out when you hear the crickets.”

Previously, K.O. has worked with Talib Kweli, Masta Ace, O.C., Elzhi, and others. Phonte appeared on his Picture This LP, by way of “Ladder Of Success.”
