OAKLAND, CA - According to KGO-TV, "For the first time in its two-year history, a First Friday event in downtown Oakland is being canceled because of rain, organizers said Thursday."
The street party is an offshoot of Art Murmur, a gallery walk that occurs earlier on the same night and draws thousands of people to Oakland's Uptown district and takes place on Telegraph Avenue from West Grand Avenue to 27th Street on the first Friday of every month.
Although the First Friday street party won't be held this Friday, organizers said there will still be plenty of indoor activities such as the Art Murmur walk, and people can still visit the Layover Music Bar & Lounge where resident Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist (True Skool) turns up every month for banging party with a diverse crowd and equally diverse musical selection from hip hop, reggae, soul, funk and house. There is no cover, so early admission is suggested to avoid waiting in line. Music starts at 10pm. The Layover is located at 1517 Franklin St., Oakland
Other bars, restaurants and music venues will remain open in Oakland.
