The celebration for Hip-Hop's 50th anniversary continues, and with it, Netflix has announced a new four-part docuseries honoring some of the greatest female MCs of all time in Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop, according to Billboard. Of course, "Ladies First" is the title of the 1989 classic by Latifah and Monie Love.
The series “recontextualizes the role the irrepressible women of hip-hop played throughout the revolutionary genre’s 50 years by reinserting them into the canon where they belong: at the center, from day one to present day," according to a description.
Each episode will mix classic MCs like Queen Latifah, MC Sha Rock, Bahamadia, MC Lyte, Monie Love, Roxanne Shanté, Yo-Yo, Remy Ma, Da Brat, and Rah Digga with newer MCs like Saweetie, Latto, Tierra Whack, Kash Doll, Rapsody, Coi Leray, and Chika. The series will feature commentary from journalists, record label executives and stylists.
