Kool Herc Gets Bronx Street Memorialized on Anniversary of Hip-Hop's Birth

The pioneering DJ was honored with Hip-Hop Boulevard on August 11, 46 years after the party that started it all.
Kool Herc has been honored with a memorialized street sign in The Bronx.
The pioneering DJ and father of hip-hop was presented the Hip-Hop Boulevard sign at Cedar Playground on Sunday August 11, 46 years after the party that started it all.
The sign is located on West 179th St between Cedar and Sedgwick Avenue. Born Clive Campbell, the Jamaican immigrant went on to be credited with helping originate hip-hop music in the South Bronx during the 1970s through his “Back to School Jam”, hosted on August 11, 1973 at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue.
Herc’s sister Cindy Campbell, known as the First Lady of Hip-Hop, was also in attendance and has been credited as another pioneer involved in the historic party that sparked a a movement.
