JAY-Z and Meek Mill Just Launched a Criminal Justice Reform Organization

BY IVIE ANI • JANUARY 24 2019

JAY-Z and Meek Mill teamed up to launch a new criminal justice reform organization called REFORM alliance.

The two artists are among the organizations founding members who collectively pledged $50 million for the launch.

Members on the board include Brooklyn Nets co-owner Clara Wu Tsai, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Philadelphia 76ers co-owner and Fanatics executive chairman Michael Rubin, Third Point LLC founder Daniel S. Loeb, Vista Equity Partners founder Robert F. Smith, and Galaxy Digital founder Michael E. Novogratz, while the CEO for REFORM is CNN commentator and author Van Jones.

A press release states REFORM Alliance aims to advance ” “criminal justice reform and [eliminating] outdated laws that perpetuate injustice, starting with probation and parole.”

JAY-Z, Rubin, Jones, and Kraft had publicly advocated for Meek Mill’s release after he imprisoned on a probation violation in November 2017.

“Creating the REFORM Alliance is one of the most important things I’ve ever done in my life, ” Meek Mill said in recently released startement. “If you thought my case was unfair, there are millions of others dealing with worse situations and caught up in the system without committing crimes. With this alliance, we want to change outdated laws, give people hope and reform a system that’s stacked against us.”
