Legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash hosted his "Birth of a Culture" block party in Crotona Park in the Bronx over the weekend (8/4). The event brought out a who's who in classic Hip-Hop including Funkmaster Flex, Greg Nice, Pete Rock, Tony Touch, Chuck Chillout, KRS-ONE, Melle Mel & Scorpio, MC Sha-Rock and many more.
Flash started his set by bringing his former group members Melle Mel & Scorpio of The Furious 5 onstage to perform their legendary "Flash To The Beat" routine (which was written in Crotona Park more than 40 years ago), and "The Message." MC Sha-Rock of The Funky 4 and Funky 4 + 1 joined Melle Mel & Scorpio, and KRS-One later joined Flash onstage for a freestyle rhyme. Dubbed as a party representing the four elements of Hip-Hop, there were graffiti artists and B-boys featured at the four-hour event.
