Gilles Peterson‘s Soundcloud page offers a wealth of goodies from the UK broadcast legend’s Worldwide program archives. Newly made public: this 2003 live BBC Radio 1 in-studio session with Gang Starr while the group was touring Europe in support of The Ownerz. After an introductory interview segment in which the duo discusses its place in ’00s hip-hop (Guru: “Biting was a crime back in the day. Nowadays it’s big business. So we’re still going against the grain a bit”), Preemo takes over the set to drop some soul and funk classics. “That was real special,” Peterson says in summation as those assembled in studio applaud. We agree.
