Full disclosure: I (as in this writer whose name you see on this piece, which does not represent the views of everyone on this site) wholeheartedly think that Elvis Presley was a culture vulture, a high-key racist (alongside his higher-key racist manager, Colonel Tom Parker), and most of his songs — especially the ones he straight copied from the Black artists of his time — don’t slap.
So I find it a bit… interesting…ironic?… odd?… that, for the most part, the soundtrack to the guy’s biopic (directed by Baz Luhrmann) features either numerous Black artists and/or artists in the Black musical space. The latest comes courtesy of Eminem, Cee-Lo Green, and Dr. Dre getting together for “The King And I.” All I know is that… well, listen to Ray Charles.
