Eddie Murphy Set to Star as George Clinton in Upcoming Biopic

According to Deadline, the comedian is currently in talks to portray the Parliament-Funkadelic founder and frontman in a film for Amazon Studios. Murphy is also slated to produce, reuniting with John Davis and Catherine David under their Davis Entertainment banner. The comedian reportedly considers the film a “passion project.” And he seems to be using his three-film deal with Amazon to finally get it into production.

Though it will certainly be interesting to see how Murphy forms a character (or an array of them for the matter,) around the P-Funk pioneer’s weird, wild, and innovative career, he won’t be the only one lacing up the platforms as George Clinton in the years ahead. Wiz Khalifa is also committed to portraying Clinton on screen in Spinning Gold, a perpetually delayed biopic about the life of Casablanca Records founder and record exec, Neil Bogart (a role Samuel L. Jackson was once tied to when the film was under the wing of Spike Lee.) But there’s still no word on when we can expect that to arrive.

Murphy, at least, has some recent experience and more-than-modest success exploring the early-70s on-screen. In 2019, he starred as Rudy Ray Moore in the heartfelt and extraordinarily funny biopic, Dolemite is My Name!.

Sparoh’s “Panama” Delivers a Powerful Message of Confidence and Creative Freedom

Sparoh is an Atlanta-based artist creating music at the crossroads of melodic trap, alternative pop, and punk-fueled rebellion. Equal parts vulnerable and unapologetic, her work explores identity, liberation, and the complexities of Black womanhood.Raised in the DMV on a foundation of jazz, funk, and blues, Sparoh was drawn early to artists who challenged convention and redefined what was possible. Influenced by trailblazers like Joyce Kennedy,…See More
