De La Soul has announced they will join Nas and the Wu-Tang Clan on the North American leg of the New York State of Mind Tour from September to October.
Starting September 20 in Nashville, Tennessee the three acts will hit Washington, Brooklyn and Seattle before the October 22 closing date in Highland, CA. In a recent mini-doc that contained behind-the-scenes clips, interviews, and show highlights, the Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon explained the meaning of New York State of Mind.
"New York State of mind is like an expression for New Yorkers," he explained. "We've been through so much. We live in a fast city. Our struggle had a lot to do with molding us. A lot of time we were listening to the music that was coming from the neighborhoods that we came from — which were the 5 boroughs. That became literature in the street and the next thing you know it got incorporated into the music. Then it transcended to other cities."
