COMMON GOES BEHIND THE SCENES OF “THE LIGHT” VIDEO FOR VEVO FOOTNOTES

A bittersweetly commemorative occasion, the month of February is unofficially known as the celebratory month of the late Big Pun (February 7, 2000), Big L (February 15, 1999), Nujabes (February 26, 2010), and J Dilla (February 10, 2006) in hip hop. As tributes and homages pour in, Common revisits his video “The Light” for VEVO Footnotes.

“’The Light’ was one of the greatest videos I have ever been a part of,” Common says. “I hope that “The Light” helped inspire more love and continues to encourage hip-hop in a way that we can always be authentic to who we are. I think that’s a beautiful thing about hip-hop. This was just one of those songs that allowed us as males to feel like we could express love in a pure way – say what we’re feeling and not be afraid. It took me a long time to understand that.”

Sparoh’s “Panama” Delivers a Powerful Message of Confidence and Creative Freedom

Sparoh is an Atlanta-based artist creating music at the crossroads of melodic trap, alternative pop, and punk-fueled rebellion. Equal parts vulnerable and unapologetic, her work explores identity, liberation, and the complexities of Black womanhood.Raised in the DMV on a foundation of jazz, funk, and blues, Sparoh was drawn early to artists who challenged convention and redefined what was possible.
