Black Thought, Talib Kweli, Mannie Fresh & More To Perform At 7th Annual Hiero Day

BY KEVIN CORTEZ • AUGUST 30, 2018

The 7th annual Hiero Day Music Festival & Block Party is taking place Labor Day, September 3. The event performers have officially been unveiled. Oakland, California’s legendary Hieroglyphics crew will be performing at their festival, and joining them will be Black Thought, Talib Kweli, Freddie Gibbs, Mannie Fresh, Elzhi, Georgia Anne Muldrow, The Pharcyde, and many others.

The event will be hosted by Mistah Fab, Chuy Gomez, Dnas, Chinaka Hodge and Chris Riggins.

Alongside the announcement of Hiero Day’s lineup also comes a few notable anniversaries within the Hieroglyphics’ discography. Souls of Mischief’s debut album 93 Til’ infinity, and Del The Funky Homosapien’s No Need For Alarm are both 25 years old this year, likely prompting special inclusions in the sets. Hieroglyphics’ 3rd Eye Vision is turning 20, while their 2003 effort Full Circle turns 15. To celebrate these anniversaries, Hiero has announced that they will be releasing companion pieces to mark each record, along with never before heard material from the vaults.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan has officially declared September 3 as “Hiero Day,” and this upcoming Labor Day marks the 7th annual celebration for the west coast crew. The festival and block party promises over 40 musical acts on three different stages and hundreds of vendors in attendance. Tickets are still available.

Sparoh’s “Panama” Delivers a Powerful Message of Confidence and Creative Freedom

Sparoh is an Atlanta-based artist creating music at the crossroads of melodic trap, alternative pop, and punk-fueled rebellion. Equal parts vulnerable and unapologetic, her work explores identity, liberation, and the complexities of Black womanhood.Raised in the DMV on a foundation of jazz, funk, and blues, Sparoh was drawn early to artists who challenged convention and redefined what was possible. Influenced by trailblazers like Joyce Kennedy,…See More
