Beastie Boys Say They Were Caught Off Guard by Eminem's "Kamikaze" Album Cover

Last month, Eminem released a surprise album Kamikaze, with album art that’s strikingly similar to the Beastie Boys‘ 1986 classic License to Ill.
In a new interview with George Stroumboulopoulos, remaining Beastie Boy members Ad-Rock and Mike D (Adam “MCA” Yauch died in 2012) revealed they were surprised by the move.
“We literally just, we saw it like everybody else,” Mike D says. “I guess the only difference is, like . . . I get 10 text messages, 20 text messages, then I’m like ‘Why do I all of a sudden have 50 text messages?’ I better see what’s going on.’ Everybody was, like, forwarding me the album cover from the Twitter feed or whatever.”
When asked if it’s nice seeing their debut album art honored in this way, Ad-Rock responded, “Sure.” He spoke on Eminem, “I don’t know him, I’m sure that was nice… I met him once in a bathroom in Rome.”
