In the wake of a medical emergency, the Bay Area’s music scene and DJs around the world are rallying behind a local legend.
Jonathan Cruz, better known as DJ Shortkut, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on July 1, according to a GoFundMe co-organized by his manager, leaving him with several medical complications, including speech, vision and cognitive difficulties and body paralysis.
The stroke occurred just two days after he spun records for a crowd of 17,000 at the Hollywood Bowl alongside acts like the Roots and Queen Latifah. According to an update shared on Shortkut’s Instagram, the DJ is in stable condition.
