Bahamadia Makes A Statement For Gender Equality & She Will Not Be Ignored (Video)

BY JACOB "34" KOERTGE • JULY 13, 2019

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Rap veteran Bahamadia has been busy making music since her Gang Starr co-signed 1996 debut album, Kollage. Since then, she has been featured alongside the likes of The Roots, Jedi Mind Tricks, and Erykah Badu. Two years ago, Bahamdaia produced an entire EP, Dialed Up 2, strictly through her phone, “due to a desire to produce on the fly while presenting quality material in a most cost-effective approach.” Now, the East Coast MC is geared up with more brand new material as she preps the release of her much anticipated album, HERE.

Written with power and purpose, Bahamadia debuts her latest video for her single, “We Here.” The record itself makes a multi-faceted statement for gender equality and a significant call for action and change as the Philly MC spits with resolve over Track Team’s hard hitting production. Directed by Olise Forel (T.I., Black Moon, Large Professor, Method Man), Bahamadia raps with many of her rhymes written as the backdrop to her own image. These same shots are interpolated with images of Bahamadia in her hometown as she scrolls through the internet, browsing for images and paying tribute to some of Hip-Hop’s most powerful women, including OG’s Sha-Rock of The Funky 4 + 1 More, Queen Latifah, Salt-n-Pepa, Rah Digga and more current artists, Jean Grae, Sa-Roc, Rapsody, DJ Kool Flash, and Chika.

Deeper into the track, Bahamadia rhymes with blatant intent and as a champion for her cause, “One of the last of a dying breed supplying a need / To put dignity where it’s supposed to be / Far as the B-Girl essence of energy in the industry / Counteract the pornographic imagery effectively / Disclosing the motives of the beast / Currently controlling these corporate entities / Blatantly attacking the female psyche / Cease em from completely misrepresenting me / On the net, boob tube screens or magazines / Not cool to be viewed as a piece of meat / Exploiting any lady with low self-esteems / A false depiction of what femininity means.”
