Event Description

This time around Wax Poetic is delving into new independent rap music from boom bap to trap and from conscious to crass. We're bringing music discovery into the small hours of the night to the beautiful space and sound system of Spirithaus Gallery for Oakland First Friday. Along with our regular staples of new rap, soul-jazz, Afrobeat and more; Spread and DJ Touré will be adding some ratchet into the mix.

April 6th is a battle of the indie platforms: Soundcloud VS Bandcamp! What was once a pop culture meme and an internet joke will be coming to real life as we bring the new music that exemplifies the typical sounds of the indie hip hop spectrum. When you hear your new favorite music you will be able to see the track info in real time courtesy of the Wax Poetic MixEmergency visual projection patch (created by DJ Hard Rich). This gives all of our Wax Poetic music fanatics in attendance the opportunity to find track info on the Wax Poetic led monitor near the DJ booth and scan a QR code to take the music home with you. With drinks, beats, community and technology to support the artists who bring us together, Wax Poetic: Soundcloud vs. Bandcamp will be a truly unique music sharing experience.
