Cuban hip-hop group began in1996, and has been influential within the Havana’s hip-hop scene since its inception. They often works with issues of race and the Afro-Cuban identity. Obsesion traveled to the United States 2006, and were invited to take part in a historical performance at the Apollo Theater with The Roots, Mos Def, and Kanye West. Obsesion has appeared in multiple documentaries about Cuban hip-hop such as “Inventos: Hip Hip Cubana,” as well as the work of a U of M graduate student,Vanessa Diaz’s “Cuban Hiphop: Desde el Principio.” Additionally, the group has been featured in literary works such as Sujatha Fernandez’s Cuba Represent! Cuban Arts, State Power, and the Making of New RevolutionaryCultures. |
