Event Description

THE LONGEST RUNNING POETRY SLAM IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA!
Bringing you some of the best poetry from across the world, every week, since 2000.

----------------------------

This is our last slam of the year folks because we are taking two weeks off during the holidays. It’s the Anarchy Slam this week! And that means anything goes. We have a MIGHTY fine feature for the night. One of the most beloved and accomplished poets to come from our neck of the woods, the one and only, MIKE MCGEE. We love Mike, we know a lot of you love Mike, let’s end the year correct!

Also it’ll be our slammaster, Betsy Gomez’s last show. As many of you may know she has been the guiding force of the Berkeley Slam since taking over for Berkeley Slam founder, Charles “Ekabhumi” Ellik a few years ago. She has dedicated so much of her time over the years from even before her time as slam master to today. So let’s send her off right and thank her for all the hard work she’s put in over the years.

Sign ups for the slam start at 7:30. The season is in full swing so earn you way to compete for a spot to represent Berkeley at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland in 2014.

Your host for the night will be Dre, with musical accompaniment by DJ Freez

Bios:

"Mighty" Mike McGee is a well-traveled funny hobo-poet from San Jose, California. He has been a force in Bay Area spoken word since 1999. His reach expanded internationally after winning the 2003 National Poetry Slam Grand Championship. McGee soon after embarked on an international poetry and comedy tour, which has taken him to venues and festivals all over Europe, Canada and the U.S. He has since become a favorite performer to many schools around the U.S. and was one of the first Americans to perform at the University of Paris (La Sorbonne) and Glastonbury, the largest music festival in the world. McGee travels roughly 100,000 miles a year to make people laugh, think and cry with his brand of "stand-up poetry."

The Hated Crew to Release Highly Anticipated Album “DNA” June 5th

More than just another project, DNA represents the core identity of The Hated Crew—its influences, struggles, sound, and artistic vision woven together into one cohesive body of work. The title itself reflects the idea that music is embedded in the group’s very makeup. Every track explores the elements that form their musical “genetic code”: rhythm, storytelling,…See More

Cole Lumpkin Moves With the Music, Letting Life Shape Every Note

Cole Lumpkin doesn’t create from a distance. He creates from inside the moment. As a New York City native, his artistry reflects motion, curiosity, and constant self-interrogation. Music for Lumpkin isn’t something you step into once everything is figured out. It’s something you carry with you, refine on the move, and allow to grow alongside real life. A self-taught…See More
