For more than forty years, Mykal Rose has been recording and performing his brand of militant, hardcore Jamaican reggae to the delight of fans around the world. One of roots reggae’s distinct voices, Rose helped define the Waterhouse sound as the lead singer of Black Uhuru, whose original lineup included Sly & Robbie. His lead vocals can be heard on hits such as “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” “Shine Eye Gal,” ”Plastic Smile,” ”What is Life,” and “General Penitentiary”. Rose also sang lead on the group’s 1985 album, Anthem, the first reggae album to win a Grammy. As a solo artist, Rose has continued to achieve success throughout the years. In 2007, he topped the Jamaican charts with “Shoot Out.” In 2019, he headlined the Jamrock Reggae Cruise, and completed a five-week tour that spanned the U.S., headlining five festivals. Rose made a flying start to 2022. “Glory to Jah”, a song he recorded for American independent label Big Feet Records, was number one on the Foundation Radio Network Chart in New York for over three weeks.
