DJ Touré: As part of a small handful of talented producers amongst a generation of hopefuls, Touré Duncan aka DJ Touré of the Hieroglyphics is hard at work making music for some of the Bay Area’s top recording artists. DJ Toure began producing music for the Hieroglyphics Collective, who have established themselves as mainstay in the underground hip hop scene. He has made a name for himself as a producer in the Bay Area with his philosophy of originality and creativity generating a demand for his particular style of aggressive, bold and colorful melodies over bass heavy tracks.
He produced tracks for Dolla Will, who was signed to Too $hort’s record label at the time and worked with many other Bay Area artists including Too $hort, E-40, Father Dom, Beeda Weeda, and Goapele. His production company, 101% Music, has acted as an incubator for new talent in the Bay’s Hip Hop, Rap, Soul, and R&B genres. Renowned for his DJing skills as well, he has been featured on songs including “That’s How it Is”, Casual’s first single and recently toured as Kelly Rowland’s DJ. As a drummer Toure has toured in Mystic’s band and played alongside the Black Eyed Peas in Canada and the United States. DJ Toure released his new album, Toure’s Theory in Feb of this 2012. It featured some of the biggest names in the Bay, and saw some solid radio play nationwide.
Mars Today: A man of many hats, Mars Today has been a fixture in the Bay Area for years as a producer, and performing artist. He cut his teeth fronting a 8 piece hip-hop/soul band, and released two full length albums under the name Yung Mars. His second album "Santa Cruz or Bust" had a strong west coast vibe that was well received nationally, spending several weeks at #3 on the College Radio Hip-Hop charts (CMJ), as well as getting songs placed on several TV shows & Indy Films (Dexter, Single Ladies). Drifting away from rapping, he started taking regular vocal lessons, and focused more on singing, songwriting, and supporting & developing other artists.
He recently produced the debut album "Vibe Called Quest" for SF emcee sayknowledge. It was the #1 hip-hop album on the CMJ Hip-Hop charts in May 2013, and was featured all over the internet including on websites such as Vibe.com, Okayplayer, 2Dopeboyz and many more. He consistently works with a small stable of up and coming artists, as well as producing and collaborating regularly with Los Rakas, becoming something of a "go to" producer for them, as well as recently taking on the role of music director for their live band.
His band alone is ten members, and includes full horn and vocal sections. It's a live interpretation of his studio work, featuring the emcees and singers that he is currently producing for. The band backs the artists as they perform songs that were either produced by, co-written by, or remixed by Mars Today.
