Event Description

Capturing the voices of a community ready to counteract a culture of violence with actions of peace.

The Imagine Peace Documentary Series celebrates community members who's bodies of work and stories of personal growth can inspire our youth to take an inventory of where they are and where they would like to go. A mix of studio interviews and live footage shot in the neighborhoods of Oakland, each episode profiles outspoken local activists, artists and non-profit organizations.

Episode One profiles the work of Oakland Native and celebrated performance artist Ise Lyfe. As the owner and founder of Lyfe Productives, Ise Lyfe often spends his days in front of a classroom and his nights on a stage.
As a hip hop artist, poet and educator Lyfe has made it a goal to focus on creating a popular culture of consciousness by finding ways to make both standard and alternative education provocative. Young, African American and from the inner city, Ise Lyfe's path in life embodies the belief " that where you are from does not have to dictate who you become." Viewers of the Imagine Peace Series are invited to witness this young educator engage his students with stimulating subject matter such as "the neutralization of the black man".

The Imagine Peace Documentary Series is apart of a multi media initiative titled "The Imagine Peace Project," which was conceived by Oakland natives and Producers Jasmene Miranda and Shomari Smith in partnership with the City of Oakland's Government channel KTOP.
