Event Description

"The Art of A&R: How To Promote & Make Money From Songs"

Many great songs don't get the attention they deserve, especially these
days with hundreds of A&R reps (and others) laid off and artists dropped
from labels. The time has come for those who rep, write or market songs
to seek new options for commercial exploitation.

It's time for them to learn how to A&R great songs – without the mechanism
of a major label or publisher, if necessary!

NARIP's July 19 program on this topic will take a look at the A&R process
and provide insight into how to commercially exploit songs, perform many
functions of a publisher, and secure and capitalize on licensing opportunities.

Most importantly, you will see HOW to create opportunity and income with music.

Get educated about the art of A&R!

YOU WILL LEARN:

- How to approach songwriting as a business
- How to increase the marketability of songs
- How to get songs played on satellite radio and cable outlets
- How to get songs placed in film and television
- How to make the most of membership in performance rights organizations
- How to work with licensing agents
- How to get an established artist to cover songs
- How to shop songs to music publishers
- How to capitalize on songwriting contests

And more.

Plus a special breakout section on:

- The legal aspects of song collaborations
- Key considerations in licensing agreements
- The benefits and challenges of being your own publisher

Plus Live A&R: A Special Song Critique

Our expert panelists will critique, evaluate and give constructive
feedback to submissions. Music will be taken (and critiqued) on a
first-come first-served basis on event day with current NARIP members
given the first opportunity to have their material critiqued. If time
permits, non-member material is welcome, so please arrive promptly if
you wish to submit music. To submit a song, you must be a registered
(paid) participant and bring one CD with one track clearly marked.
One track per registrant. Thank you.
