Gator Da Don Drops "Im Still Me" Album & Represents Ohio

Youngstown, Ohio has real mob ties, and in the 1990s, referring to the city as "Yompton” was a nod to the same ruthlessness that defined the small California town that became the birthplace of gangsta rap. It was a time shaped by the crack epidemic, turf wars, and widespread poverty.  That’s the world that Gator Da Don came of age in, and he doesn't dress it up in his music. On "Story to Tell," he lays it out plainly “My momma was broke and my daddy was smokin’/thats life in the Kimmel Brook Projects

Music was always in him — he came from a musically inclined family and recorded his first record, "Ruthless," at just 15 years old. But the pressure to provide pulled him in a different direction leading to two prison stints in the Ohio penitentiary system — one for seven years, and another for nine — putting his music career on hold for the better part of two decades. The name Gator Da Don was born inside those walls. It started simply as "Gator," earned for how he'd snap on any lyrical opponent put in front of him.

What kept him grounded through it all was family. On "Now You See Me," he explains the choices that cost him his freedom without excusing them: “My people need me. I aint never been a slouch/ I go connect with da connect the same day that i get out.”

That same sense of responsibility is what drove him, upon his release ‘off papers’ to build his own label from the ground up — focused on owning his masters, and creating something to leave behind for his kids and grandkids.

Sonically, Gator Da Don is a deliberate break from the autotune-heavy sound dominating much of today's rap landscape. As Quincy “Big Heff” Taylor put it after listening to the project… “OHIO has a lot of talent, Gator Da Don is Youngstown and I wanna show the world his talent

His delivery is diverse but disciplined, built around hooks and lyricism that hold up on their own. What sets him apart isn't just the sound — it's the vantage point. This is a man who was at the top of the game before it was taken from him. He never cooperated. He never told — a fact he addresses directly on the title track, Im Still Me “I’m a blessing to these streets ain’t no more can goods/Never told on a soul so my hand good.” That perspective, hard-earned and unapologetic, runs through everything he makes, underlining the highs and lows of street life, the deception, the friends and family lost and the years missed as a father.

2026 has been a breakout year:

  • Appeared on viral music vlog, THE DEBUT with the song "Big Steppers"

  • Released debut album I'm Still Me, available now on all platforms

  • Aligned with Nationally recognized music executive Quincy “Big Heff” Taylor to expand reach and fanbase

  • 35+ additional songs already recorded for the next project

  • At least four more singles from I'm Still Me planned for release

Gator Da Don carries himself like a street boss who's paid every toll the game demanded — and walked away with something to show for it: wisdom, discernment, and hope. That hope manifested through Boss Up or Bow Down LLC, the holding company he founded to benefit, not just from his musical talent, but also his knack for negotiating deals via real estate and residential interior design — all built with one goal in mind: making sure everyone on the team eats.
