Tommy Shepherd is a father, a husband, actor, playwright, b-boy, rapper, drummer, and beatboxer. His wife Anna Maria just had their baby boy in Novmeber, 2007! His most recent conquest was re-writing an incomplete script formerly written by Duke Ellington called “Queenie Pie”. The Play will be performed at the Oakland Opera in May 2008.
This past December Tommy created and performed his first one act solo performance piece The MF in ME, premiering at Intersection For The Arts for their Grounded festival of new works. Shepherd has spent much of the last couple of years acting in a children’s cooking show called Doof (food backwards) and performing and touring internationally with Marc Bamuthi Joseph in Scourge. His next project with Bamuthi Joseph will be Participating as a Musician/Beatboxer for the break/s, premiering at Yerba Buena in June. He also created the score for Donald Lacy’s touring show Color Struck. The next collaboration with Dan Wolf is called Stateless He’ll be performing and creating the live musical soundscape. Stateless will be Touring Europe in 2008. Tommy is also co-founder of the live hip hop band, Felonious: onelovehiphop, which plays throughout the world and also develops and creates theatrical productions.
Tommy was a long time Hybrid Resident Artist at Intersection For The Arts in San Francisco along with Erika Chong Shuch and Dan Wolf. He is also a member of resident theatre company Campo Santo. Tommy has also been performing with Erika Chong Shuch’s ESP project (Dance Theater) in San Francisco. He was in the sold-out runs of the dance theatre piece one window and the 2007 piece called 51802. Most recently for Intersection, Tommy acted in and created the live score for Hamlet: Blood in the Brain, by Naomi Iizuka with Campo Santo and created the sound design and score with Howard Wiley for A Place To Stand. He also acted, beatboxed, and composed a live score with Scheherazade Stone for Domino by Campo Santo with Sean San José, directed by Erika Chong Shuch, which premiered at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. In 2004, he was an actor, the Musical Director and live vocal musician for the play a fist of roses by Philip Kan Gotanda created with Campo Santo + Intersection.
