As a bay area resident (by way of New York), Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist made his mark by curating top notch events featuring hip hop legends and emerging artists from the Bay and beyond. In 2001, his True Skool events won the "Best of the Bay" in the SF Bay Guardian. Since True Skool's inception in 1999, his online magazine and newsletter has served as an information resource that covers hip hop history, politics, and events. As a DJ, he has spun alongside pioneers such as Mixmaster Mike, Grandmaster Flash, Jazzy Jeff, Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool DJ Red Alert, Q-Bert, Cut Chemist, DJ Premier, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, DJ Cash Money, DJ Bobbito, and Rich Medina. In addition, he shared bills with world-renowned artists such as The Roots, Erykah Badu, Lupe Fiasco, Wu-Tang Clan, Michael Franti & Spearhead, KRS-One, Lyrics Born, Pharcyde, and the list goes on. Ren is a professional party rocker who can put it down among the best of them with a vast arsenal of music to drop on any dancefloor, ranging from hip hop, reggae & soul to electro, house and breaks. Ren has appeared on numerous publications, such as the XLR8R, 7x7, SF Weekly, SF Magazine and SF Examiner, to name a few. He has graced the Bay Area with his non-stop seemless sets, making appearances at San Francisco's premiere venues such as Temple, Mighty, Mezzanine, Ruby Skye, 1015, The Independent, among a slew of other venues. In addition, he has appeared at Michael Franti & Spearhead's annual "9-11 Power to the Peaceful Festival", Outside Lands Music Festival, Myx.tv and KPFA's Hardknock Radio.

Hola,
I concur, thanks for setting this up. I have enjoyed the Skool's events since Storyville was happenin'. Keep up the good work. I will be going to the Mighty on Mar.21st to see Mr. Scruff it should be dope. If there is any promotion that you would like to do in Santa Cruz, I could pass on the word to Free Radio, give me an email at finniusb@yahoo.com. Peace.
Hola,
I just purchased Mr. Dibbs mix Turntable Scientifics it is so dope. A great mixture of scratching and samples, I'd suggest it. Mike Relm is coming in May to the Independent, that should be a killa show. Peace.
Imagine living 100 years in the future. What are sights, what
are the sounds? What would your wildest dreams look
and sound like if they were made manifest? 100 years
into the future ….. without a diabolical world
war or a gloried messiah's return. What if humanity
got it all together and technology actually led us
into an evolved state of consciousness.
Everything was all good and
life was a never ending party. What would the
music sound like? Perhaps syncopated
melodies infused with high frequency metallic
guitar riffs, alongside deeply soulful and energetic
ambient compositions. But all hip-hop amplified to
uncharted waters of sound. Here's the kicker it's not
the future even though it sounds like it. It may
be the time machine that scientists have been
trying to create for hundreds of years, but took
a musical genius to deliver this vehicle to us all.
His name: Korise J a.k.a. Big Tunes. His vehicle:
his album: Big Tunes Big Dreams
a musical tapestry of genres ranging from soul to
electronica to boom bap hip-hop. And not a weak
attempt either, but rather a nostalgic blender of albums
like Prince's Controversy and Outkast's Stankonia
with sound's reminiscent of Massive Attack's Blue Flames
and Sweetback. Nonetheless, Big Tunes Big Dreams is more
than a musical masterpiece, it more than word's
could describe, it's more quality music for your money.
More albums should be made like this.
