Oakland, CA - After numerous independent releases and mini-tours of California over the past few years, The Understudies have formed Study Music and partnered with weedTRACKER.com to form weedTRACKERmusic with artists such as reggae crew Jah Warrior Shelter, Aesop (of world famous hip hop group Living Legends), and MCs Ro Knew and Influence. This summer, The Understudies will release Citizen’s solo debut, “In Search of Her Soul”. The EP showcases the bay area producer/mc and various Understudies MCs paying tribute to the late, great jazz vocalist/pianist Eunice Waymon, better known to the masses as “Nina Simone“, through a vivid array of finely chopped Citizen beats, on certain tracks mixing layers of live instrumentation and some impressive turntable work by DJ Browse.
