Event Description

Announcing Valerie Orth, Finding Stella and Alexis Harte
Faraway City CD Release Party & Holiday Donation Drive
at The New Parish on December 9th!

San Francisco based singer-songwriter Valerie Orth, will be celebrating the release of her ambitious new album, Faraway City, at The New Parish in Oakland on Thursday, December 9th as part of a triple bill with Finding Stella and Alexis Harte. Guest artists include Sandman (Oakland rapper) and Jon Evans (of Tori Amos)!

The artists are also sponsoring a holiday donation drive at the show for BOSS (Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency), an East Bay-based organization which operates a network of housing and support service programs to combat homelessness and poverty.

For the fiercely independent Orth, Faraway City is a culmination of over two years of songwriting. Described as "soulful, genuine, and edgy" by the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Orth combines folk, rock, pop, and soul elements with her own indie zeal and a spirit born of her years in social justice activism and grassroots campaign organizing. With gorgeous, multi-octave vocals and no fear of heights, Valerie flirts with the edge as readily as she subverts expectations.

FINDING STELLA's song "What If" landed them in the Top 20 of the 2010 Lilith Fair competition. Their music integrates the classic rock and pop spirit of the 70s and 80s with a newer, warmer rock quality that has been drawing new audiences from along the West Coast and beyond.

ALEXIS HARTE's musical roots extend into acoustic folk, bluesy Americana, and even electrified Afro-pop. His songs are powered by an examination of everyday moments, in which his sharply drawn details loom larger than life.

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
