Event Description

This December 23rd The Oakland Poetry Slam & Open-Mic plays host to four local Slam TEAMS as they battle to see who qualifies to participate in The National Poetry Slam this summer in Boston MA and who has to take their chances on the waiting-list. The teams confirmed for this event represent: The Berkeley Poetry Slam, The San Francisco Poetry Slam & Experimental-Mic, Tourettes Without Regrets (Oakland) & The Life Sentence Variety Show (Fairfield).

Of course we'll also start off the show with our patented WIDE-Open-Mic so YOU should bring your own Poems or Lyrics or Jokes or Instrument and GET ON THE MIC! We'll also have a special Stand-Up COMEDY mini-feature for you between the Open-Mic and the Slam to cleanse your palate, whet your appetite and get you laughing.

Then, after the poetry's all said and done we'll shove the chairs aside and share the season's joy with each other... that means we PARTY! Bring an inexpensive gift (>$10) for the "secret Santa" too.

FYI - no home team in this event since The Oakland Slam Team already qualified for NPS when we WON the "Room Full of Speakers" tournament in Portland OR.

Tynisha Keli - "Standing On It" (Prod by James Artissen & Ronell Sessoms)

“Standing On It” by Tynisha Keli is a bold, grown-woman anthem about self-worth, resilience, and standing ten toes down on everything you’ve worked for. Smooth R&B melodies glide over a confident, soulful production as Tynisha delivers honest lyrics rooted in experience, strength, and evolution. The song captures a moment of clarity—where excuses are gone, boundaries…See More
