Event Description

Okay, the dust from finals has settled, all of the members of the various teams are getting to know each other, writing new pieces and joining together like Voltron to create super, multi-voice or "group" pieces. What, you've never heard of such a thing? You've never seen it when 2 or more poets come to the stage at the same time and deliver a poem together? Well, you have no idea what you're missing. Group pieces are always some of the most exciting and dynamic poems to grace the stage at Nationals, so much so that a separate Group Piece Finals was added to Nationals before last years tournament. Which team Berkeley WON!

Now, before the poets head to St Paul to face off against the rest of the nation they test their mettle battling each other head to head for local poetic supremacy! The Battle of The Bay series, or "BoBs" is where the Bay Area slam teams hone their competitive edge by competing in "bouts" that mirror what they'll be seeing in August at Nationals. This year the Bay is sending FIVE teams to the big dance; Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, Life Sentence and San Jose. You owe it to yourself to come witness the poetic carnage these phenomenal poets inflict on each other first hand. The Oakland BoB is a long standing tradition, now in it's 11th year. For this show we're thrilled to be back at the hottest venue in The Bay The Oasis Restaurant & Nightclub! We'll be slamming twice a month on the 2nd & 4th Thursday but this show is EXTRA-special with ALL of the Bay's top poets in the ONE show. Don't miss it!

Cole Lumpkin Moves With the Music, Letting Life Shape Every Note

Cole Lumpkin doesn’t create from a distance. He creates from inside the moment. As a New York City native, his artistry reflects motion, curiosity, and constant self-interrogation. Music for Lumpkin isn’t something you step into once everything is figured out. It’s something you carry with you, refine on the move, and allow to grow alongside real life. A self-taught…See More

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
