Fans will have the option to commemorate the life and legacy of DMX. On Wednesday it was announced that rather than a public memorial, fans will be able to watch tributes online.
A “Celebration of Life” memorial is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. It will be streaming live from the artist’s YouTube channel at 4 pm ET. Then on Sunday, April 25, his “Homegoing Celebration” will take place at 2:30 pm ET. It will air live on BET and BET’s YouTube channel.
Per Billboard, representatives for the rapper have shared that attendance for both memorials will be restricted to close friends and family due to New York health and safety guidelines. The Barclays Center cannot allow more than 10% capacity at the moment.
Last week, it was reported that Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano was considering allowing the family of DMX to use the city’s largest outdoor venue, Yonkers Raceway, for their memorial service if they’d like to. That venue holds about 7,500 people compared to Barclays, which holds 19,000.
DMX was no stranger to the Barclays Center. In fact, one of his last big shows came in 2019 when he performed at the Masters of Ceremony concert at the Barclays center. He also performed at the venue in 2017 during the Ruff Ryders reunion tour.
On Friday, April 9, 2021 — after spending a week on life support after suffering a heart attack — DMX’s family announced that the rapper had died. He was only 50 years old.
