His victory in Tuesday's special election will give Democrats control of 51 seats in the Senate. It also marks a major defeat for former President Donald Trump, who had handpicked Walker, a former football star who had no political experience, to be the standard-bearer in Georgia. Walker is the eighth Trump-backed Senate candidate to lose this year, despite earlier predictions that Republicans would regain control of the Senate. Warnock received 51.4% of the vote compared to Walker's 48.6%. LaTosha Brown, co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund, says intense on-the-ground organizing was able to put Warnock over the top, but she warns that the tight result is a "red flag" signaling the continued threat from Trump. "We're still fighting voter suppression. We're still fighting fascism," says Brown. The non sequiturs create a distraction for “a woman who is overqualified for this position,” Hoag adds. Hoag is a former federal public defender and also discusses the significance of Jackson’s background as a federal public defender.

#DemocracyNow

Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on nearly 1,400 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday. In a 13-hour session, the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate approved rules for the impeachment trial that Vince Warren says are tantamount to a “cover-up.” Under the rules, each side will be given 24 hours over a three-day period for opening arguments. Senators also agreed to automatically admit evidence from the House inquiry into the trial record. Republicans rejected 11 amendments from Democrats to subpoena witnesses and documents at this stage in the trial.

#DemocracyNow The GOP Accuses Kavanaugh's Accuser Of Being 'Mixed Up' tag:trueskool.com,2018-09-27:1464587:Video:678552 2018-09-27T00:50:47.118Z Editor's Pick https://trueskool.com/profile/RentheVinylArchaeologist

Sixty-five women signed onto a letter defending Brett Kavanaugh's character amid sexual assault allegations.
