- MY NAME IS JAMES ELLIOTT AND I AM AN ABSTRACT ARTIST LIVING IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. "ABSTRACT" IS THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE MY ARTWORK. AND WHEN IT COMES TO MY WORK, YOU EITHER LOVE IT OR YOU HATE IT. THERE’S NO REAL IN BETWEEN. AND I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND HOW THAT IS. I’VE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE ARTS FOR A DECADE NOW. I ENJOY PAINTING, DRAWING, & SCULPTING. PAINTING WITH ACRYLICS HAS GOT TO BE MY MOST FAVORITE MEDIUM BY FAR. NEW IDEAS COME TO ME ON A DAILY BASIS AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE FUTURE OPENING MY OWN CO-OP ART GALLERY.
INSPIRATION CAN COME FROM ANYWHERE I HAVE LEARNED. I CAN BE INSPIRED BY THE SUN OR THE MOON, OR THE TREES, EVEN A COMMENT THAT SOMEONE SAYS TO ME MIGHT INSPIRE ME TO PAINT SOMETHING TOTALLY OFF THE WALL AND CRAZY. MY BIGGEST INSPIRATION WOULD HAVE TO BE THE UNIVERSE. I CAN GET INSPIRED BY MY SURROUNDINGS AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES. AS FAR ARTIST WHO INSPIRE ME I WOULD HAVE TO SAY MONET AND VAN GOGH.
MY ARTWORK HAS COME A LONG WAYS SINCE I FIRST STARTED SKETCHING DURING A GRAVEYARD SHIFT I WORKED AT A TAXI COMPANY. IT REALLY HELPED PASS THE TIME. AND FROM SKETCHING DEVELOPED INTO DRAWING DEVELOPED INTO PAINTING. AND MY LATEST IDEA IS ART PIECES THAT ARE STRETCH CANVAS WITH PLASTER COVERING THE ENTIRE THING, AND THEN I PAINT ON IT. BECAUSE I MAKE MY OWN FRAMES AND STRETCH MY OWN CANVAS, THE PLASTER MAKES IT REALLY NICE TO PAINT ON.
