Otayo Dubb and Sakima areCO-DEEZ (Hella Records 2004) MC/Producer Otayo Dubb and MC/Musician/Vocalist Sakima formulate the musically diverse Hip Hop group known as the CO-DEEZ. CO-DEEZ, short for Co-Defendants, is revolutionizing Hip-Hops musical sound and composition by presenting beats that draw from an influence of Jazz, Afro-funk, Ska, RockSteady and Hip Hop rhythms. As Hip Hop music is constantly put on trial, Otayo Dubb and Skatta are living proof that the culture can endure the fight for creative freedom. The music created between these two talented artists can be traced back to early middle school where it all started on Skattas mothers 4-track, drum machine and a three-string guitar. Growing up in the Bay area (California), the pair would spend hours in the bedroom studio, before and after school, experimenting with rhythms, which ultimately led to the development of their sound today. Both rooted in musically rich families, they learned to listen to and appreciate eclectic rhythms at an early age. Otayos mother, a professional conga musician, would constantly practice in their home while Skattas mother who was also a percussionist, exposed her son to the influences of other musicians. It was only a matter of time before we both would break out of our shell and stand on our own two feet as musical artists, says Otayo. With inspiration surrounding them while growing up, the CO-DEEZ soon found their calling as hip hop scientists. The resonates of heavy low end bass and melodic guitars along with a poetic, smooth and constant dialogue between the two mcs can be heard throughout their tracks. Otayos production pushes the sound of todays Hip Hop format while Sakimas melodic singing/lyricist style round off the CO-DEEZ sound. The pair pulled from their deep roots and developed a sound that celebrates the culture they live today pure Hip Hop. The CO-DEEZ represent Blue Collar Hip Hop music. From the politics of todays working class to the love of Hip Hop, they create music from the soul. With an album slated for a February 2005 release, anticipation builds with every thought.
