H.E.R. flexed her chops on the guitar for the performance as well.
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards was a bit different than past ceremonies due to the pandemic, but H.E.R. put on a rousing performance for the virtual crowd. On Monday night, she covered Prince‘s “Nothing Compares 2 U” for the In Memoriam segment of the broadcast. Stream the full performance below.
The segment honored the legends we’ve lost in the past twelve months–iconic actor John Witherspoon, Naya Rivera, Chadwick Boseman and more.
The segment ended with a powerful quote from Boseman. “Purpose crossed disciplines,” the late Black Panther star said. “Purpose is an essential element of you. It’s the reason you’re on the planet at this particular time in history. The struggles along the way are only meant to shape you for your purpose.”
